Fernando González Laxe has a Doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1982) with the qualification of outstanding cum laudem. 

Currently, and since 1992, he is Professor of Applied Economics at the Universidade da Coruña where he teaches and directs research. 

He is director of the Institute of Maritime Studies of the University of Coruña, Editor of the Atlantic Review of Economics and Coordinator of the Quarterly Situation Report of the Galician ECONOMICAL FORUM. 

Author of articles on the economy and management of fishery resources in the main specialized journals: Marine Policy, Fish & Fisheries, Ocean & Coastal Management, ICES Journal of Marine Science, British Food Journal, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Maritime Policy & Management, Océanides-CICIMAR , Scientia Maritima, Journal of AgroSocial Studies, Neptunus, etc. 

He wrote more than 10 books on Fisheries Economics. Among them, stand out “Economy of the fishing sector” (Ed. Espasa Calpe-1988); “Development and strategy of European fisheries” (Ed. Netbiblo 2022); and “Lessons of Fishing Economy” (Ed. Netbiblo, 2008). 

He was General Manager of Fisheries Management of the Government of Spain and President of the Fisheries Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. 

Also, he was a deputy in the Parliament of Galicia, Senator of the Kingdom of Spain and president of Puertos del Estado. Between 1987-1990 he held the presidency of the Xunta de Galicia. 

Recently, he was a member of the Organizing Committee of the IIFET-2022 Meeting (International Institute Fisheries Economics and Trade) held in Vigo in July this year. 

En la actualidad, y desde 1992, Catedrático de Economía Aplicada en la Universidade da Coruña donde imparte docencia y dirige investigaciones.

Director del Instituto de Estudios Marítimos de la Universidad de Coruña, Editor de la Revista Económica Atlantic Review of Economics y Coordinador del Informe de Coyuntura Trimestral del FORO ECONOMICO de Galicia.

Autor de artículos sobre economia y gestión de recursos pesqueros en las principales revistas especializadas: Marine Policy, Fish & Fisheries, Ocean & Coastal Management, ICES Journal of Marine Science, British Food Journal, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Maritime Policy & Management, Océanides-CICIMAR, Scientia Maritima, Revista de Estudios AgroSociales, Neptunus, etc.

Escribió más de 10 libros sobre Economía Pesquera. Entre ellos, destacan “Economía del sector pesquero” (Ed. Espasa Calpe-1988); “Desarrollo y estrategia de la pesca europea” (Ed. Netbiblo 2022); y “Lecciones de Economía Pesquera” (Ed. Netbiblo,2008).

Fue Director General de Ordenación Pesquera del Gobierno de España y Presidente de la Comisión de Pesca de la Asamblea Parlamentaria del Consejo de Europa.

Tambien, fue diputado en el Parlamento de Galicia, Senador del Reino de España y presidente de Puertos del Estado. Entre 1987-1990 ostentó la presidencia de la Xunta de Galicia.

Recientemente, fue miembro del Comité Organizativo de la Reunión de la IIFET-2022 (International Institute Fisheries Economics and Trade) celebrada en Vigo en julio de este año.
